Wellness Walk
On May 4th members of the community and hospital employees took part in the first ever Wellness Walk at Judge Lewis Park.  Participants enjoyed exercising and visiting with family and friends while kicking off fundraising activities for the new hospital. Pledges were collected by hospital employees totaling over $1,000.

Students Enjoy Hospital Tours
Elementary students from area schools were invited to RCH for tours during National Hospital Week, May 12-16. Students from Mt. Ayr, East Union, and Diagonal had the opportunity to see areas of the hospital including the operating room, emergency room, physical therapy department and other areas of the hospital. Students were especially excited to be treated to a ride in the ambulance and to hear the sirens.

Scholarships Awarded
An Auxiliary Tea is scheduled on June 9th at 2:00 p.m. in the hospital board room to award scholarships. Each year scholarships are awarded to select individuals majoring in healthcare related fields. This year’s Auxiliary recipients are Wesley Klejch, Kaylin Berger, Lori Mercer, Nicole Goodale and Debbie Klommhaus.  Scholarships from the family of Loueva McGehee will be presented to Grant Larsen and Kyle Beaman.
Auxiliary members and friends and family of the recipients are invited to attend.

***SMOKE-FREE FACILITY***

As a health care institution, Ringgold County Hospital wants to provide a healthy environment. In support of the initiative started by the Iowa Hospital Association and recently written into law by Governor Chet Culver, our board voted to make the hospital a tobacco-free campus.  This policy will be implemented July 1, 2008.

There are several reasons that we are changing our stance for a tobacco-free campus.

  1. There is a proven link between tobacco and many health issues. Therefore, it is hypocritical for us to promote healthy lifestyles while allowing tobacco use on our premises.
  2. The Governor’s ban restricts smoking in all public facilities. As a hospital open to the public, we need to comply with the Governor’s intent.
  3. Non-tobacco users have the right to come to a hospital that is free of smoke and tobacco products. Smoking receptacles at entrances means that non-smokers are likely to pass through cigarette smoke when entering the hospital.

Thank you for your support of this project.
