Q: What kinds of rehabilitation services are provided?

A: At Ringgold County Hospital Rehabilitation we provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as cardiac rehabilitation therapy. We begin with a personal evaluation and then develop individual plans of care to meet each patient’s needs. We treat a broad range of diagnoses, including orthopedic, neurological, arthritis, joint replacements, fractures, gait problems, balance impairments, and lymphedema.

Q: Are rehabilitation services for inpatients only?

A: We work with patients both in and out of the hospital. Many come here as inpatients, while they’re recuperating from surgery, or perhaps a stroke. Their physicians may prescribe ongoing treatment, so they come back regularly until therapy is no longer needed. We also provide therapy services to patients who have never been hospitalized. Elderly patients can benefit from strength training, and people with arthritis or fibromyalgia, for example, can improve their quality of life with our help.

Rehabilitation Q: What is the facility like?

A: We have a comfortable, sunny, spacious area in the hospital. There’s room for all of our equipment and the space to use it properly. But most significant is our warm water therapy pool, which allows us to provide aquatic therapy as well as land-based therapy. No other hospital in the area has anything like it.

Rehabilitation Q: What is aquatic therapy?

A: Our therapists are trained and certified in an aquatic therapy system called Phased Progression. And our patients do just that: they make progress in phases as they perform specific exercises and movements. Beginning treatment in warm water, patients are functioning at a higher level when transitioned to land-based therapy. They get stronger faster, and with less pain. We use aquatic therapy for many conditions including sports injuries, post-surgery rehabilitation, and pain management to name a few.

Rehabilitation Q: What about the therapists?

A: Of course, all of our therapists have their own personalities, but we have many traits in common. We’re friendly, energetic, and like to try new things. We work well together because we share a common goal: helping our patients get back to their healthy lives as quickly as possible.

Rehabilitation Q: Is Cardiac Rehabilitation available?

A: Our patients need conditioning as they recover from a heart event. They are cared for in a special area with a specially trained staff dedicated to improving their condition. Education is a significant component of rehabilitation, and includes topics related to anatomy, diet, exercise and daily activity modification.
